Oceans dried up, crops withered, and the ground was torn asunder, leaving huge changes in the landscape. Humanity, which was at the peak of it’s golden age, was left fighting to survive. The old way of life disappeared, technologies were forgotten, and historical records lost to time. The ruins of the cities once inhabited by the first people can still be found throughout the world, though they are now crumbling monuments to a lost age.

Much time has passed since the cataclysm, and humanity rose from the ashes to once again rule the earth. Only this time, they were not alone. New races of mutants prowled the Earth, terrorizing the people until they could be brought to heel. Nations rose and fell, but human nature remained unchanged. War, love, greed, pleasure, hatred, religion; all the things that defined the old way of life now define the new.

Civilization entered a new age with the rediscovery of aether, a powerful energy source that can be used to power advanced technology. The ability to harness this incredible resource decides the fate of entire nations, and brings about both rapid advancements as well as incurring heavy human costs. Aether cores, ancient artifacts from before the cataclysm, are used to harness aether. They are highly sought after, and those who possess them wield incredible power.
